Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes using a vegetable peeler and cut them into roughly equal-sized chunks, about 1-2 inches.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes into a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a teaspoon of salt to the water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Mashing Process

  1. 3

    Drain and Return to Pot

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a colander and return them to the pot.

  2. 4

    Add Butter and Milk

Add the butter and milk to the drained potatoes. Use a potato masher or a hand mixer to mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy.

  3. 5

    Incorporate Sour Cream

Stir in the sour cream until fully combined and the potatoes are fluffy.

  4. 6

    Season to Taste

Add garlic powder, black pepper, and additional salt to taste. Mix well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Warm

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and serve warm. Optionally, you can garnish with additional butter or fresh herbs.
