Macaroni and Cheese Balls
Spicy Marinara Cream Sauce
Method
Macaroni and Cheese Balls
- 1
Cook the Macaroni
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- 2
Prepare Cheese Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the cooked macaroni, shredded cheddar cheese, grated parmesan cheese, milk, egg, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined.
- 3
Form Balls
Using your hands, scoop out a portion of the macaroni mixture and form it into a ball about the size of a golf ball. Repeat until all the mixture is used.
- 4
Coat with Breadcrumbs
Place the breadcrumbs in a shallow dish. Roll each macaroni ball in the breadcrumbs to coat evenly.
- 5
Heat Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Balls
Carefully add the macaroni balls to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Spicy Marinara Cream Sauce
- 7
Make the Sauce
In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the marinara sauce and bring to a simmer.
- 8
Add Cream and Season
Stir in the heavy cream, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and allow to simmer for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 9
Finish with Basil
Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Serve the sauce warm alongside the macaroni and cheese balls.
