Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Noodles

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Meat Sauce

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Brown the beef until fully cooked, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  3. 3

    Add Vegetables and Seasoning

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Cheese Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, beaten egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley. Mix well until fully combined.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 6

    Layer the Lasagna

Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place 4 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella cheese. Add a layer of meat sauce, then repeat the layers (noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, meat sauce). Finish with a final layer of noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce and mozzarella cheese.

  3. 7

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, spray the foil with cooking spray). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  4. 8

    Let it Rest

Once baked, let the lasagna sit for 15 minutes before slicing. This will help the layers to set and make serving easier.
