Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). This will ensure that your ham cooks evenly and thoroughly.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Ham

Remove the ham from its packaging and place it in a roasting pan, fat side up. Score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern with a sharp knife, being careful not to cut too deep.

  3. 3

    Insert Cloves

Press whole cloves into the intersections of the diamond cuts on the ham. This adds flavor and a decorative touch.

Glazing

  1. 4

    Make the Glaze

In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar (if using). Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth.

  2. 5

    Apply the Glaze

Brush half of the glaze over the ham, ensuring it gets into the scored sections. Reserve the other half for later.

Cooking

  1. 6

    Bake the Ham

Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 15-18 minutes per pound, or until heated through (internal temperature should reach 140°F / 60°C).

  2. 7

    Baste the Ham

Every 30 minutes, remove the foil and baste the ham with the reserved glaze to enhance flavor and moisture.

Finishing Touch

  1. 8

    Glaze Again

In the last 30 minutes of cooking, remove the foil and brush the ham with the remaining glaze. This will create a nice caramelized finish.

  2. 9

    Rest and Serve

Once cooked, remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.
