Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Cook the Burger

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on each one. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 5

    Slice the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion into thin rings. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.

Assemble the Cheeseburger

  1. 6

    Toast the Buns (Optional)

If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 7

    Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and onion rings. Top with the other half of the bun.
