Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add olive oil and salt, then gradually incorporate the flour until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.

  4. 4

    Shape the Pizza

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions for two pizzas. Roll out each portion on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

  5. 5

    Add the Sauce and Toppings

Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese, then add your choice of toppings (pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, olives, etc.).

  6. 6

    Bake the Pizza

Transfer the pizza to a baking sheet or pizza stone and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  7. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven, add fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve hot.
