Syrup Preparation

In a large pot, combine the sassafras root, sarsaparilla root, and birch bark with 4 cups of water.

Boil the Mixture
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes.

After simmering, remove from heat and strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl, discarding the solids.
