Method
Preparing the Sausage
- 1
Cook the Italian Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage. If using mild sausage, you may add crushed red pepper flakes for spice. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Combining Ingredients
- 2
Add Marinara Sauce
Once the sausage is cooked, reduce the heat to low. Pour in the marinara sauce and stir to combine. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- 3
Add Mozzarella Cheese
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sausage and sauce mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and let it cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.

- 4
Garnish and Serve
If desired, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with fresh basil before serving. Serve hot as a filling for sandwiches, over pasta, or on its own.
