Dough Ingredients

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with the olive oil. Mix until a rough dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Cooking the Flatbreads

  1. 6

    Preheat Skillet

Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot. You do not need to add oil.

  2. 7

    Shape Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6-8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 8

    Cook Flatbreads

Place the flattened dough in the hot skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and puffed up. If using toppings, sprinkle them on one side while cooking.

  4. 9

    Keep Warm

Transfer the cooked flatbreads to a plate and cover them with a clean kitchen towel to keep warm while you cook the remaining flatbreads.
