Fresh Orange Juice

Method

Fresh Orange Juice

1

Prepare the oranges

Wash the oranges under cool running water to remove any residue. Pat dry. Roll each orange firmly on the countertop with the palm of your hand to loosen the juices.

2

Cut and juice

Cut each orange in half crosswise. Using a citrus juicer (manual or electric), juice all the orange halves until you have approximately 2 to 2 1/2 cups of fresh orange juice. If you prefer pulp-free juice, press the juice through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl, using the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.

3

Adjust sweetness and acidity

Pour the strained (or unstrained) orange juice into a pitcher. Add the cold water to slightly dilute for balance. Stir in the granulated sugar and fresh lemon juice until the sugar is fully dissolved. Taste and adjust: add up to 1 additional teaspoon of sugar if you prefer sweeter juice, or a little more lemon juice if you want brighter acidity.

4

Chill and serve

Fill serving glasses with ice cubes. Pour the prepared orange juice over the ice. Garnish each glass with an orange slice and a sprig of mint if using. Serve immediately for the freshest flavor.

5

Storage

Store any leftover juice in a sealed container or pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours. Stir or shake gently before serving, as natural separation may occur.
