Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare and measure

Measure 2 oz Knob Creek bourbon, 0.5 oz Giffard Banane du Brésil, 0.75 oz tamarind syrup, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice. Have 2 dashes of Angostura bitters ready and fill a cocktail shaker about halfway with ice.

  2. 2

    Build and shake

Add the bourbon, banana liqueur, tamarind syrup, lime juice, and bitters into the shaker over the ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted.

  3. 3

    Strain

Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled old-fashioned glass over one large ice cube or a few fresh ice cubes. Use a fine-mesh strainer in addition to the shaker strainer to remove any small ice shards and pulp from the tamarind syrup or lime.

Garnish & serve

  1. 4

Express the oils of a lime wheel over the drink (if using a wheel) by squeezing it briefly above the glass, then drop the wheel onto the surface as garnish. Optionally place a dehydrated or fresh banana slice on the rim or floated on top for aroma and visual contrast.

  2. 5

Serve immediately. Recommend pairing notes: the tamarind adds tangy-fruity acidity that balances the banana liqueur’s sweetness and the bourbon’s caramel/oak — enjoy slowly.
