Base Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

Chocolate Ganache Topping

Method

Prepare the Cake Batter

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.

  2. 2

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Bake the Cake

  1. 4

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. 5

    Pour Batter

Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly.

  3. 6

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  4. 7

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Ganache

  1. 8

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.

  2. 9

    Melt Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the dark chocolate, stirring until completely melted and smooth.

Assemble the Cake

  1. 10

    Pour Ganache

Once the cake is completely cool, pour the chocolate ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  2. 11

    Set Ganache

Let the ganache set for about 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving.
