Bread (choose one)

Spread (choose one or combine)

Proteins (choose one or layer up to two)

Seasoning & Optional Add-ons

Method

Prepare Bread & Spreads

1

Select and toast

Choose one bread option (two slices or one roll). If you prefer warm or crisp bread, lightly brush one side of each slice or roll half with olive oil (optional) and toast in a skillet over medium heat or in a toaster until golden, about 2–3 minutes per side in a skillet or 1–2 cycles in a toaster.

2

Spread 1 tablespoon mayonnaise or 2 tablespoons hummus on one slice/half and 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard or softened butter on the other slice/half. Adjust quantities to taste if combining spreads.

Assemble Proteins & Cheese

3

Place your chosen protein(s) on the spread-covered bread: arrange about 3 oz of sliced roasted turkey, ham, or roast beef (or a combination up to 6 oz) in an even layer. If using cheese, place one slice of cheddar or Swiss directly on top of the warm protein so it softens slightly (about 30 seconds).

Add Vegetables & Seasoning

4

Layer lettuce (1 leaf) on top of the protein to protect the bread from moisture. Add 3 tomato slices, 3 rings of red onion, 3 pickle slices, and 1/2 sliced avocado (optional) in an even layer.

5

Sprinkle vegetables lightly with 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt and 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper. If desired, dot or drizzle up to 1 teaspoon hot sauce over the avocado or tomato for a spicy kick.

Finish & Serve

6

Close the sandwich with the top slice/half of bread, cut in half if desired, and press gently to compact the layers. If using a roll, close and press with a sandwich press or heavy skillet for 30–60 seconds to meld flavors.

7

Serve immediately. Provide extra condiments (mayonnaise, mustard, pickles, hot sauce) on the side if desired.
