Hot Chocolate

Method

Hot Chocolate

1

Heat liquids

Combine 1 cup water and 1 cup whole milk in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the liquid is steaming and small bubbles form around the edges but not boiling (about 4–5 minutes). Stir occasionally to prevent a skin forming on the milk.

2

Add mix

Remove the pan from direct heat. Add 1 packet of Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix and a pinch of salt. Whisk vigorously until the mix is fully dissolved and the drink is smooth (about 20–30 seconds).

3

Adjust and finish

Taste and, if desired, add up to 1 tsp granulated sugar or 1/4 tsp vanilla extract to enhance sweetness and flavor. Stir to combine. Return to very low heat for 30–60 seconds if you added sugar to help it dissolve, but do not boil.

Toppings

4

Pour the hot chocolate into a mug (about 2 cups total yield). Top with approximately 2 tablespoons of whipped cream. Sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon cocoa powder and/or 2 tablespoons mini marshmallows if desired.

5

Serve immediately while hot. Offer additional whipped cream or marshmallows on the side to allow guests to customize.
