Protein (choose one per sandwich)
Egg & Cheese
Bread & Spreads (choose one bread and optional spreads)
Optional Vegetables & Add-ins
Method
Protein (cook as chosen)
Bacon
Heat a medium skillet over medium heat. Place 2 bacon strips in a single layer and cook 3–5 minutes per side until browned and crisp to your liking. Transfer to paper towels to drain.
Sausage Patty
If using a raw breakfast sausage patty, heat a skillet over medium and add a light film of oil or nonstick spray. Cook the patty 4–6 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and browned. Drain excess grease.
Ham
If using a ham slice (pre-cooked), sear in a hot skillet 30–60 seconds per side until warmed and slightly browned.
Chorizo
For loose raw chorizo, remove from casing if necessary and crumble into a heated skillet. Cook over medium heat 5–7 minutes until fully cooked and slightly crisp. If using pre-cooked chorizo slices, heat 1–2 minutes per side.
Vegetarian option
Heat plant-based sausage or cook an extra egg as below; follow package instructions or cook until heated through and browned.
Egg & Cheese (prepare egg and assemble cheese)
Place the slice of choice cheese directly on the hot egg or on the warm protein so it begins to melt while resting, about 30–60 seconds.
Bread & Toasting
Choose your bread: 1 bagel (plain or works) or 2 slices of chosen bread (regular or gluten-free).
Lightly butter the cut sides of the bread or bagel. Toast in a toaster or under a broiler until golden and slightly crisp, about 2–4 minutes depending on appliance and bread thickness.
If using cream cheese, spread it on the bottom half of a warm bagel. If using mayo or mustard, spread on the top or bottom slice as preferred.
Assembly & Optional Add-ins
On the bottom half of the toasted bread or bagel, layer the protein (bacon, sausage patty, ham, or chorizo).
Top with the other half of the bread or bagel. Press gently, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately while warm.
Notes & Variations
Gluten-free: use toasted gluten-free bread. Sweet bread (e.g., Hawaiian) pairs well with savory meats like ham. 'Works' bagel typically includes seeds/onion and can be used interchangeably.
