Focaccia
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add salt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
- 3
Prepare the Garlic Butter
Melt the remaining olive oil in a small saucepan over low heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat.
- 4
Shape the Focaccia
After the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Stretch the dough to fit the pan. Use your fingers to create dimples in the surface.

Bake the Focaccia
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the focaccia for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. In the last 5 minutes, top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and cut into squares. Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side.
