Meatloaf and Toppings

Method

Preparation and Assembly

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatloaf

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

  2. 2

    Shape and Bake

Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan, shaping it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).

  3. 3

    Prepare the Bread

While the meatloaf is baking, lightly toast the sourdough bread slices until golden brown.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Open Faced Meatloaf

Once the meatloaf is done, let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Place a slice of meatloaf on each piece of toasted sourdough bread. Top each with a generous amount of gravy and a slice of provolone cheese.

  5. 5

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the open-faced meatloaf warm with any additional gravy on the side.
