Burger Patty

Toppings

Method

Prepare Burger Patty

  1. 1

In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked black beans until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

  2. 2

Add the cooked quinoa, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper to the bowl. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.

  4. 4

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the burger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and heated through.

Make BBQ Glaze

  1. 5

In a small saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  2. 6

Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the glaze is warm and well mixed, about 5 minutes.

Assemble Burger

  1. 7

    Toast Burger Buns

If desired, toast the whole wheat burger buns on a skillet or in a toaster.

  2. 8

Spread a generous amount of the BBQ glaze on each burger patty.

  3. 9

Place the BBQ-glazed patty on the bottom half of the bun, then top with sliced onions and pickles.

  4. 10

Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
