Method
Chicken Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a bowl, combine buttermilk, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken breasts and ensure they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or preferably overnight.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a separate bowl, mix the flour with a pinch of salt and black pepper. This will be used to coat the marinated chicken.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small bit of batter into it; if it sizzles, it’s ready.
- 4
Coat the Chicken
Remove each chicken breast from the buttermilk marinade and let excess liquid drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coat. Gently shake off any excess flour.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken breasts into the hot oil. Fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C). Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Prepare the Buns
While the chicken is frying, toast the burger buns in a toaster or on a skillet until golden brown.
- 7
Assemble the Sandwich
On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a piece of fried chicken. Top with a slice of tomato and pickles. Place the top half of the bun on each sandwich.
- 8
Serve
Serve the hot chicken sandwiches immediately with your favorite side dishes.
