Sake

Method

Prepare glassware

  1. 1

    Chill glassware

If possible, chill the pint glass and shot glass in the refrigerator or freezer for 10–15 minutes before serving so the drink stays cold longer.

  2. 2

Place a clean shot glass and a chilled pint glass or beer mug on your work surface.

Pour drinks

  1. 3

Pour 12 oz of cold lager or pilsner into the chilled pint glass, leaving a little headroom so it doesn't overflow when the shot is dropped.

  2. 4

Pour 6 oz of cold sake into the shot glass. Use a level pour so the sake doesn't spill when handled.

Serve and drop

  1. 5

Place the shot glass of sake on top of the mouth of the pint glass, balancing it carefully if you prefer the traditional presentation. Alternatively, hold the shot glass in your hand above the beer glass.

  2. 6

To drink the Sake Bomb, hit the table once (or have one person slam the table) so the shot glass drops into the beer, or simply drop the shot glass into the beer glass if you prefer. Immediately drink the mixture from the pint glass in one or two swift gulps.

  3. 7

If using, squeeze the lime wedge into the beer briefly before drinking, or use it afterward to refresh the palate.

  4. 8

Enjoy responsibly. This is a quick-consumption drink; consume slowly if you prefer to pace yourself.
