Method

Pulled Pork Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks.

  2. 2

    Mix the Rub

In a bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Rub the Pork

Generously rub the spice mixture all over the pork pieces, ensuring they are well-coated.

  4. 4

    Cook the Pork

Place the pork in a smoker or slow cooker. Pour apple cider vinegar and water over the top. If using a smoker, cook for about 6-8 hours at 225°F, or until the pork is tender and easily shredded.

  5. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the heat and let it rest for 15 minutes. Then shred the pork using two forks.

Spicy Apple Slaw Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

Finely shred the green cabbage and carrots. Chop the green onions and jalapeño pepper (remove seeds for less heat).

  2. 7

    Mix the Slaw

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, carrots, green onions, and jalapeño.

  3. 8

    Make the Dressing

In a separate bowl, whisk together apple cider vinegar, mayonnaise, honey, salt, and black pepper.

  4. 9

    Combine Slaw and Dressing

Pour the dressing over the slaw mixture and toss until everything is evenly coated. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Assembly

  1. 10

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Toast the artisan buns if desired. Layer shredded pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun and top with a generous portion of spicy apple slaw. Place the top bun on and serve immediately.
