Pizza Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Dough
If using store-bought pizza dough, follow package instructions. If making from scratch, prepare your dough and let it rise according to the recipe.
- 2
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 250°C (482°F) or as hot as your oven can go, ideally with a pizza stone inside.
- 3
Prepare the Tomato Sauce
In a bowl, mix the diced tomatoes with minced garlic, salt, and a drizzle of olive oil. Allow to sit for about 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- 4
Shape the Pizza
On a floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a baking sheet or a pizza peel sprinkled with flour or cornmeal.
- 5
Assemble the Pizza
Spread the tomato mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Place slices of fresh mozzarella evenly over the sauce.
- 6
Add Parmesan and Basil
Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the mozzarella, and scatter fresh basil leaves on top. Drizzle with olive oil and add freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- 7
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone). Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.
- 8
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice and serve immediately with extra basil if desired.
