Method

For the Chocolate Cherry Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Cherry Filling

Gently fold in the cherry pie filling until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Chocolate Ganache

  1. 8

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.

  2. 9

    Melt Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes to soften, then stir until smooth and fully combined.

  3. 10

    Cool Ganache

Allow the ganache to cool slightly before using it to glaze the cake.

For Garnish

  1. 11

    Prepare Garnish

Wash and dry the fresh cherries. Set aside.

  2. 12

    Dust with Powdered Sugar

Just before serving, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar and arrange the fresh cherries on top.
