Method

Preparing the Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings carefully and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large heavy pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Frying the Onion Rings

  1. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess batter to drip off.

  2. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 6

    Drain and Cool

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Allow them to cool slightly.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve with Sauces

Serve the beer battered onion rings hot with ranch dressing or beer mustard on the side for dipping.
