Base Ice Cream Mixture
Flavor Additions
Method
Prepare Ice Cream Base
- 1
Combine Dairy Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is warm and the sugar has dissolved, stirring occasionally.
- 2
- 3
Temper the Egg Yolks
Gradually add a ladle of the warm cream mixture to the egg yolks, whisking constantly to temper the yolks. This prevents them from scrambling.
- 4
- 5
Cool the Base
Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Flavoring and Churning
- 6
Add Flavorings
Once the ice cream base is chilled, divide it into portions if making multiple flavors. Add food coloring and flavoring extracts to each portion as desired.
- 7
Mix in Add-Ins
Gently fold in any mix-ins such as chocolate chips or fruit, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
- 8
Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the flavored ice cream mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency (approximately 20-30 minutes).
Freeze and Serve
- 9
Transfer to Container
Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- 10
Freeze
Freeze the ice cream for at least 4 hours or until firm.
- 11
Serve
Scoop the Arbuckles Ice Cream into bowls or cones, and enjoy your homemade treat!
