Coconut Washed Bourbon

Spiced Pecan Demerara

Bitters

Method

Coconut Washed Bourbon

  1. 1

    Prepare Coconut Washed Bourbon

In a mixing glass, combine 2 tablespoons of coconut oil with 1 cup of warm water. Stir until the coconut oil is melted and fully incorporated into the water. Add 2 ounces of bourbon to the mixture and stir gently. Let it sit for about 30 minutes at room temperature.

  2. 2

    Separate the Oil

After resting, place the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or until the coconut oil solidifies. Once solidified, remove the layer of coconut oil and discard it. The bourbon will now have a subtle coconut flavor.

Spiced Pecan Demerara

  1. 3

    Prepare Spiced Pecan Demerara

In a dry skillet over medium heat, add 1 cup of pecans. Toast them lightly for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Remove from heat and let cool.

  2. 4

    Mix with Sugar and Spices

In a bowl, combine the toasted pecans, 1 cup of demerara sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Mix well to ensure the pecans are coated with the sugar and spices.

Final Assembly

  1. 5

    Assemble the Cocktail

In a mixing glass, add 2 ounces of coconut washed bourbon, 2 dashes of Angostura bitters, and 1 tablespoon of the spiced pecan demerara mixture. Fill the glass with ice and stir for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

  2. 6

    Serve

Strain the mixture into a chilled old-fashioned glass. Garnish with a few pecans and a twist of orange peel if desired. Enjoy your Coconut Pecan Old Fashioned!
