Method

Preparation of Vegetables

  1. 1

    Shred the Cabbage

Using a sharp knife or a mandoline, finely shred the green cabbage and red cabbage into thin strips. Place them in a large mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Grate the Carrots

Peel and grate the carrots using a box grater or food processor. Add the grated carrots to the bowl with the cabbage.

  3. 3

    Chop the Green Onions

Trim the ends of the green onions and chop them into small pieces. Add them to the mixing bowl with the shredded vegetables.

Preparation of Dressing

  1. 4

    Combine Dressing Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, black pepper, and celery seed until smooth and well combined.

Mixing the Slaw

  1. 5

    Combine Slaw and Dressing

Pour the dressing over the shredded vegetables in the large mixing bowl. Toss everything together until all the vegetables are evenly coated with the dressing.

  2. 6

    Add Optional Ingredients

If using, add in the dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, or chopped nuts. Toss gently to combine.

Chilling and Serving

  1. 7

    Chill the Slaw

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve the slaw cold as a side dish or topping for sandwiches and tacos.
