Method
For the Patties
- 1
Prepare the Patties
In a large bowl, combine the ground Angus beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined.
- 2
Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form into 2 patties, ensuring they are slightly larger than the burger buns to allow for shrinkage during cooking.
For the Chili
- 3
Sauté the Vegetables
In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and diced red bell pepper, and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
- 4
Add Spices and Beans
Stir in the ground cumin, chili powder, red beans, diced tomatoes with juice, beef broth, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- 5
Simmer the Chili
Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
