Method
Fried Green Tomatoes
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Slice the green tomatoes into 1/2 inch thick rounds. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Set Up Breading Stations
In one bowl, place the all-purpose flour mixed with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In a second bowl, pour the buttermilk. In a third bowl, place the cornmeal.
- 3
Bread the Tomatoes
Dip each tomato slice first into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk, and finally coat with cornmeal. Ensure each piece is well coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it shimmers.
- 5
Fry the Tomatoes
Carefully place the breaded tomato slices into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Remoulade Sauce
- 6
Combine Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, chopped capers, lemon juice, hot sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth.
