Burger Patties

Burger King-style Sauce

Method

Burger King-style Sauce

  1. 1

    Make the sauce

In a small bowl, combine 0.25 cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon ketchup, 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish, 0.5 teaspoon white vinegar, 0.25 teaspoon onion powder, 0.125 teaspoon garlic powder, 0.125 teaspoon paprika and 0.125 teaspoon salt. Whisk until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Burger Patties

  1. 2

    Form patties

Divide 1 lb ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz each). Gently form into thin patties slightly larger than the buns (about 4.5 inches wide). Press a shallow dimple in the center of each patty with your thumb to help them cook flat.

  2. 3

    Season

Season both sides of each patty with a light sprinkle of 1 teaspoon salt and 0.5 teaspoon black pepper distributed between the patties (about 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp pepper per patty).

  3. 4

    Cook patties

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, spreading to coat. When the pan is hot and shimmering, add patties (work in batches if overcrowded). Cook 2-3 minutes without moving to develop a crust, flip, then immediately place a slice of American cheese on each patty. Cook another 1.5-2 minutes until cooked through and cheese is melted (internal temp 160°F/71°C). Remove patties and keep warm.

Buns & Assembly

  1. 5

    Toast buns

Spread softened butter on cut sides of 4 sesame buns. On the same skillet (wipe excess grease if very heavy) or in a separate pan over medium heat, place buns butter-side-down and toast until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat.

  2. 6

    Assemble burgers

Spread about 1 tablespoon of the prepared Burger King-style sauce on the top and bottom of each toasted bun (reserve any extra sauce for serving). On the bottom bun place shredded lettuce (about 1/4 cup per burger), then one cheese-topped patty, 2 pickle slices, a few onion slices, and one tomato slice. Cap with the sauced top bun. Repeat for remaining burgers.

Serve

  1. 7

Serve burgers immediately with fries or your preferred side. Extra sauce can be refrigerated for up to 5 days.
