Burrata and Toppings

Caramelized Onions

Method

Preparing the Caramelized Onions

  1. 1

    Cook the Onions

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and olive oil together. Add the thinly sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring frequently, for about 10 minutes until they start to soften.

  2. 2

    Add Sugar

Sprinkle in the sugar and continue to cook the onions, stirring every few minutes, for another 20-30 minutes until they are deeply golden brown and caramelized.

  3. 3

    Season

Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt if needed. Remove from heat and set aside.

Assembling the Dish

  1. 4

    Prepare the Burrata

On a serving plate, place the burrata cheese in the center. Use a knife to cut a small slit in the top of the burrata to allow the creamy interior to ooze out.

  2. 5

    Add Caramelized Onions

Top the burrata with the caramelized onions, spreading them evenly over the cheese.

  3. 6

    Drizzle with Olive Oil

Drizzle the olive oil over the onions and burrata for added flavor.

  4. 7

    Sprinkle Chilli Flakes

Sprinkle the crispy chilli flakes over the top for a spicy kick.

  5. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Finish with fresh basil leaves, a sprinkle of sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Serve immediately with crusty bread or crackers.
