Method

Preparation of Pickles

  1. 1

Drain the dill pickles and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

Making the Batter

  1. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the milk. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick but smooth.

Frying Pickles

  1. 4

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

Dip each pickle slice into the batter, ensuring it's completely coated.

  3. 6

Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil, cooking in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. 7

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickles and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Making Ranch Dressing

  1. 8

In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise and sour cream.

  2. 9

Add dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth.

  3. 10

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Serving

  1. 11

Serve the crispy fried pickles hot with the homemade ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
