Double Shot Cocktail
Method
Double Shot Cocktail
- 1
Prepare Espresso
Brew two shots (about 2 fl oz) of espresso immediately before making the cocktail so it is hot and aromatic. If you don't have an espresso machine, use strong brewed coffee concentrated to roughly espresso strength.
- 2
Cool Slightly
Allow the hot espresso to cool for about 20–30 seconds so it won't melt the ice immediately but is still warm enough to bloom aromas.
- 3
Build in Shaker
Add 1 cup of ice to a cocktail shaker. Pour in 2 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, 0.5 oz simple syrup, 0.5 oz cold brew (or chilled water) and the two freshly brewed espresso shots.
- 4
Shake
Firmly cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds. The goal is to chill the mixture, create a light crema on top, and slightly dilute to balance flavors.
- 5
Double-Strain and Serve
Double-strain the cocktail (through the shaker strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into a chilled coupe or rocks glass. Double-straining removes tiny ice shards and espresso grounds for a smooth drink.
- 6
Garnish
Float three coffee beans on the crema and, if using, add an orange twist: express the orange oils over the surface and drop the twist into the glass or hang on the rim.
- 7
Serve
Serve immediately. Sip to enjoy the contrast of hot-brewed espresso flavor complemented by cold spirits and liqueur.
