Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Glass
Begin by chilling an old-fashioned glass. Place it in the freezer or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.
- 2
Muddle the Ingredients
In a mixing glass, add the fresh orange slice and the maraschino cherry. Muddle gently to release the juices and flavors.
- 3
Add Bourbon and Bitters
Pour in 2 oz of Bulleit bourbon and add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the muddled mixture. Fill the mixing glass with ice.
- 4
Stir the Mixture
Stir the mixture gently for about 30 seconds until well chilled and combined.
Smoking the Cocktail
- 5
Prepare the Smoke
In a smoking gun, place a handful of applewood chips. Ignite the chips according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- 6
Smoke the Cocktail
Strain the cocktail mixture into the chilled old-fashioned glass. As you pour, use the smoking gun to infuse the drink with applewood smoke. Cover the glass with a small lid or a coaster to trap the smoke inside for a few seconds.
Garnishing
- 7
Add the Final Touch
Express the oils from a piece of orange peel over the drink and drop it into the glass as garnish. Optionally, you can also add the muddled orange slice and cherry back into the drink for extra flavor.
