Potato Preparation

Dipping Sauce (optional)

Method

Potato Preparation

  1. 1

    Cut the Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly and cut them into waffle fry shapes using a waffle fry cutter or a knife. Aim for uniform thickness to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the water and spread the potatoes out on a clean kitchen towel. Pat them dry thoroughly to remove any excess moisture.

Frying the Waffle Fries

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy to ensure perfect frying.

  2. 5

    Fry the Waffle Fries

Carefully add a handful of the dried waffle fries into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.

  3. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper to taste.

Making the Dipping Sauce

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, and lemon juice until well combined. Adjust the hot sauce based on your spice preference.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the waffle fries hot with the dipping sauce on the side. Enjoy your homemade Philadelphia-style waffle fries!
