Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Mushrooms
Clean the Portabella mushrooms with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Remove the stems and slice the caps into strips, about 1/2 inch thick.
- 2
Frying
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Bread the Mushrooms
Take a mushroom strip, dip it into the flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, letting any excess drip off, and finally coat it with breadcrumbs. Repeat for all mushroom strips.
- 5
Fry the Mushrooms
Carefully place the breaded mushroom strips into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Once cooked, remove the fried mushrooms from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with ranch dressing or Ernie's Sauce.
