Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined; be careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and cook for another 3 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cover the grill or skillet to melt the cheese.

Preparing the Toppings

  1. 6

    Slice the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and red onion. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 7

    Toast the Buns

If desired, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cheeseburger patty, a slice of tomato, some red onion rings, and any condiments you prefer.

  3. 9

    Finish Assembly

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
