Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and stir until both the chocolate and butter are completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 3
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together granulated sugar and eggs until the mixture becomes pale and thick, about 3-5 minutes. You can use a hand whisk or an electric mixer for this step.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, stirring continuously until well combined. Add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, mixing until fully incorporated.
- 5
Bake the Tort
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are set but the center is still slightly soft (it will firm up as it cools).
- 6
Cool and Serve
Remove the tort from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, invert it onto a plate and let it cool completely before slicing. Dust with cocoa powder before serving if desired.
