Brickle Base

Method

Brickle Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Baking Dish

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking dish with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal later.

  2. 2

    Cook the Brickle Mixture

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the unsalted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and water. Stir until the butter has melted and the sugars have dissolved.

  3. 3

    Add Whiskey and Flavorings

Once the mixture is bubbling, carefully stir in the Stranahan's whiskey, vanilla extract, and salt. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a soft crack stage (about 290°F or 143°C), which should take around 10-15 minutes.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Nuts

Remove the saucepan from heat and fold in the chopped toasted almonds into the mixture until evenly distributed.

  5. 5

    Pour the Mixture

Immediately pour the hot mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula. It will spread and settle as it cools.

  6. 6

    Add Chocolate Chips

Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot brickle mixture. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until the chocolate chips soften, then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top.

  7. 7

    Cooling Process

Allow the brickle to cool completely in the baking dish at room temperature for at least 2 hours.

  8. 8

    Cut and Serve

Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the brickle out of the baking dish. Cut into squares and serve or store in an airtight container.
