Prepare the Vanilla Base
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and whole milk until well combined.

Add Sugar and Salt
Add the granulated sugar and a pinch of salt to the cream mixture. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Incorporate Vanilla
Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the seeds with the back of a knife. Add both the seeds and the whole vanilla bean pod to the mixture.

Add Vanilla Extract
Stir in the vanilla extract into the mixture for extra flavor.

Chill the Mixture
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

Churn the Ice Cream
Once chilled, remove the vanilla bean pod and pour the mixture into an ice cream maker. Churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

Freeze the Ice Cream
Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
