Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Vanilla Base

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and whole milk until well combined.

  2. 2

    Add Sugar and Salt

Add the granulated sugar and a pinch of salt to the cream mixture. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Vanilla

Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the seeds with the back of a knife. Add both the seeds and the whole vanilla bean pod to the mixture.

  4. 4

    Add Vanilla Extract

Stir in the vanilla extract into the mixture for extra flavor.

  5. 5

    Chill the Mixture

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

  6. 6

    Churn the Ice Cream

Once chilled, remove the vanilla bean pod and pour the mixture into an ice cream maker. Churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

  7. 7

    Freeze the Ice Cream

Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.

  8. 8

    Serve

Scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones and enjoy your homemade vanilla bean ice cream!
