Method
Waffle Fry Preparation
- 1
Prep the Potatoes
Wash and scrub the Russet potatoes thoroughly under running water. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
- 2
Cut the Potatoes
Using a waffle fry cutter or a sharp knife, cut the potatoes into waffle shapes. Make sure they are evenly cut to ensure uniform cooking.
- 3
Soak the Fries
Place the cut fries into a bowl of cold water for about 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This helps them become crispier when cooked.
- 4
Dry the Fries
After soaking, drain the fries and lay them out on a clean kitchen towel. Pat them dry thoroughly to remove excess moisture.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature.
- 6
Fry the Waffle Fries
Carefully add the dried waffle fries to the hot oil in batches. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Season
Once fried, use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While still hot, season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
Dipping Sauce Preparation
- 8
Mix the Sauce
In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, garlic powder, and lemon juice. Stir until well mixed.
- 9
Serve
Serve the waffle fries hot with the dipping sauce on the side.
