Method

Cooking the Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Season the strip steak with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  2. 2

    Charbroil the Steak

Heat a grill or grill pan over high heat. Add olive oil and sear the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Remove from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

Preparing the Toppings

  1. 3

    Sauté Onions and Mushrooms

Thinly slice the onion and mushrooms. In a skillet over medium heat, add a tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the onions until they are translucent, about 5 minutes, then add the mushrooms and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until they are tender.

  2. 4

    Prepare Lettuce and Tomato

Wash the lettuce and tear it into bite-sized pieces. Slice the tomato into thin rounds.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 5

    Build the Sandwich

Slice the hoagie roll open. Lay down a bed of lettuce, followed by the sliced steak, sautéed onions, and mushrooms. Top with slices of provel cheese and tomato.

  2. 6

    Serve

Close the hoagie roll and slice in half if desired. Serve immediately while warm.
