For Smiley Faces

Method

Preparation of Potatoes

  1. 1

    Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Wash and cut potatoes

Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly. Peel if desired, then cut each potato into thin slices about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Shape the smiley faces

Using a cookie cutter or a knife, cut out smiley faces from the potato slices. Ensure to cut out eyes and a smile to make them recognizable.

Seasoning and Baking

  1. 4

    Toss with seasoning

In a large bowl, combine the potato slices with olive oil, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Toss until all slices are well coated.

  2. 5

    Arrange on baking tray

Spread the seasoned smiley fries on a baking tray lined with parchment paper in a single layer.

  3. 6

    Bake

Place the baking tray in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Serving

  1. 7

    Add eyes and serve

Once the fries are done, use black olives to create eyes on each smiley face. Serve warm with a side of sour cream for dipping.
