Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ribeye

Remove the ribeye steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This ensures even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the ribeye steak dry with a paper towel. Rub the olive oil over both sides of the steak. Season generously with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, making sure to cover all surfaces.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

Place a skillet (preferably cast iron) over high heat and allow it to get very hot, about 3-5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Once the skillet is hot, carefully place the ribeye steak in the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side for medium-rare. Flip the steak using tongs and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side.

  3. 5

    Check for Doneness

Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, it should read 130-135°F (54-57°C). Adjust cooking time as needed for your preferred doneness.

  4. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the ribeye from the skillet and transfer it to a cutting board. Cover loosely with foil and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the ribeye steak against the grain into thick slices. Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
