Prepare the Spice Rub
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper until well combined.

Prepare the Pork Shoulder
Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder and rub the spice mixture generously all over the meat. Ensure it's well coated.

Baste the Pork
Every hour, baste the pork shoulder with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and barbecue sauce to keep it moist and flavorful.

Rest the Meat
Once the pork reaches the desired temperature, remove it from the smoker and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before shredding.

Shred the Pork
Using two forks, shred the rested pork shoulder into bite-sized pieces. Discard any large pieces of fat.

Serve the pulled pork on buns with additional barbecue sauce and coleslaw if desired.
