Topping (optional)

Method

Cook the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of salted water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Pasta

Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same pot, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once the butter is melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it turns golden.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, whisking frequently, until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 0.5 tsp of salt, 0.25 tsp of black pepper, 0.5 tsp of garlic powder, and 0.25 tsp of paprika until smooth and creamy.

Combine and Serve

  1. 8

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained pasta to the cheese sauce and stir until well combined.

  2. 9

    Prepare Topping (optional)

In a small bowl, mix 0.5 cups of breadcrumbs, 0.25 cups of grated Parmesan cheese, and 1 tablespoon of melted butter.

  3. 10

    Assemble

Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish and sprinkle the breadcrumb topping evenly over the top.

  4. 11

    Bake (optional)

If desired, bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  5. 12

    Serve

Allow to cool for a few minutes, then serve warm and enjoy!
