Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks for even cooking.

  2. 2

    Mix the Spice Rub

In a bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Rub the Pork

Generously rub the spice mixture over the pieces of pork, ensuring each piece is coated evenly. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Set Up Slow Cooker

Place the seasoned pork in the slow cooker. Add the apple cider vinegar, barbecue sauce, and water on top of the pork.

  2. 5

    Cook the Pork

Cover and cook the pork on low for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours until the meat is fork-tender.

  3. 6

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the sauce.

Serving

  1. 7

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the burger buns if desired. Spoon the pulled pork onto the bottom half of each bun.

  2. 8

    Add Coleslaw

Top with coleslaw if using, then cap with the top half of the bun. Serve warm.
