Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the Kansas City Strip Steak.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or heat a skillet over medium-high heat on the stove. Add the olive oil to the skillet if using.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Steak

Place the seasoned Kansas City Strip Steak on the grill or in the hot skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy (130-135°F for medium-rare).

  2. 4

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your preference, remove the steak from the grill or skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.
