Blueberry-Pomegranate Base

Method

Blueberry-Pomegranate Base

  1. 1

    Make the blueberry purée

Place the fresh blueberries, cold water, and granulated sugar in a blender. Blend on high until smooth, about 30–45 seconds. If you prefer a very smooth drink, strain the purée through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard seeds and solids.

  2. 2

    Combine with pomegranate and lemon

Pour the blueberry purée into a pitcher. Add the pomegranate juice and fresh lemon juice. Stir thoroughly until sugar is fully dissolved and mixture is homogeneous. Taste and adjust sweetness with up to 1 additional tablespoon sugar if needed.

  3. 3

    Chill briefly

Refrigerate the combined base for at least 10 minutes to let flavors marry and to cool the mixture. If you need the drink immediately, proceed with ice but expect slight dilution.

Finishing & Serving

  1. 4

    Assemble the beverage

Fill a 16-ounce (about 473 mL) glass or bottle with ice cubes. Pour about 2/3 cup of the blueberry-pomegranate base over the ice (this recipe yields roughly 2 cups of base; adjust pour to reach a total finished volume near 473 mL when combined with soda). Top with club soda until the glass reaches 473 mL (generally about 1 cup of soda). Gently stir once to combine without flattening the bubbles.

  2. 5

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with a few whole blueberries and a small sprig of mint. Serve immediately. If preparing bottles for later serving, combine base and soda in the bottle, cap, and chill; add ice and garnish when serving.

  3. 6

    Storage

Keep leftover blueberry-pomegranate base refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 3 days. Add club soda just before serving to maintain fizz.
