Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Soaking the Beans

Rinse the dried black beans under cold water, then place them in a bowl and cover with water. Let them soak overnight or for at least 6 hours.

  2. 2

    Cooking the Beans

Drain and rinse the soaked beans. In a large pot, combine the beans and 4 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for about 1 to 1.5 hours or until the beans are tender.

  3. 3

    Sautéing Aromatics

In a separate skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  4. 4

    Combining Ingredients

Once the beans are cooked, drain them and add to the skillet with the sautéed onion and garlic. Stir in the cumin, salt, black pepper, and lime juice. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  5. 5

    Garnishing

Remove from heat and stir in the chopped cilantro. Serve warm as a side dish or as a base for various recipes.
